Jimmie Foxx

Biography

During a time of great sluggers, Jimmie Foxx out slugged them all. His first, of a career high 534 home runs, came in 1927. Foxx, nicknamed “Double X” because of the unique way he spelled his last name, blasted 58 homers and 169 RBI enroute to his first of two consecutive MVP awards in 1932. He also collected MVP honors upon the conclusion of the 1938 season with a batting average of .349, 50 home runs, and a career high 175 RBI.

Opposing catchers claimed, “If I were catching blindfolded, I’d always know when it was Jimmie Foxx who connected. He hit the ball harder than anybody else”. “Double X” was a marked as one of baseballs greats with his Hall of Fame induction in 1951.
